Award to Adelo
Gulf retiree A. Samuel Adelo of Santa Fe, N.M., has received a
Distinguished Service Award from University of Arizona "for a
decade of excellence in teaching and leadership in the university's Navajo Institute for Court Interpretation."

During the last ten years, Adelo has been involved in:
- Teaching courses in criminal and civil procedure to aspiring Navajo and Spanish court interpreters at University of Arizona's Haury Institute.
- Teaching "Spanish for Lawyers and Law Professionals," a
continuing legal education course offered by the State Bar of New
Mexico.
- Working at Tucson's Davis Monthan Air Force Base as an
interpreter for the Military Legal Committee, comprised of military officers from the U.S. and Spanish-speaking countries of the
Americas.
- Serving as a federal and state certified court interpreter in Santa Fe.
Adelo, prior to studying law, was an interpreter for the U.S.
State Department and U.S. International Cooperation Administration. He also taught Spanish and Portuguese as a grad student at
Notre Dame, Northwestern and Southern Methodist universities.
As a corporate counsel for Gulf Oil, he worked in many Spanish-speaking countries, using that language in negotiations and
in counseling company executives on legal issues.
